Psalm 39 For the overcomer, through Jeduthun, a Psalm through David
1 I did say, I will take heed to my ways indeed,
so that with my tongue I may not sin.
I will muz-zle my mouth while wicked's before me.
2 I spoke not what is good in silence.
And my sorrow was stirred. 3 Within me, my heart burned.
Fire was kindled in my musing.
Then I spoke with my tongue, 4 Make me know, LORD, my end,
the measure of my days, what it is.
I will know how frail I am. 5 Behold You've given
all my days to be a few handbreadths.
My lifetime is as nothing. Before You all men
standing are surely all vanity. <Selah>
6 Surely every man walks to put on a facade.
Surely they're disquiet-ed in vain.
He heaps up wealth without - knowing who'll gather it.
7 And now, O - Lord, what do - I wait for?
My hope is - in Thee. 8 Free me - from all of my sins.
Make me not the reproach of the fool.
9 I was dumb, opened not my mouth for - You did it.
10 Your scourges from me O please remove.
From the striving of Your - hand I have been consumed
11 When You with rebukes cor-rect a man
for ini-quity, You make his beauty consume.
Surely vanity is every man. <Selah>
12 Hearken to - my prayer, LORD, and - give ear to my cry.
At my tears, O do not be silent.
For like all - my fathers, I'm a stra-nger with Thee.
13 Be blind to me, let me smile again.
Hearken to my prayer, LORD, and give ear to my cry.
At my tears, O do not be silent,
for like all - my fathers, I'm a stra-nger with Thee,
before I be no more and go hence.

119:9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word.
141:3 Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.
James 1:26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless.
3:2 For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.
5 So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. Behold, how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire!
Proverbs 4:26 Watch the path of your feet, And all your ways will be established.
21:23 He who guards his mouth and his tongue, Guards his soul from troubles.

63:6 When I remember Thee on my bed, I meditate on Thee in the night watches,
77:12 I will meditate on all Thy work, And muse on Thy deeds.
104:34 Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; As for me, I shall be glad in the LORD.
119:15 I will meditate on Thy precepts, And regard Thy ways.
148 My eyes anticipate the night watches, That I may meditate on Thy word.
143:5 I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Thy doings; I muse on the work of Thy hands.
;Job 14:1 "Man, who is born of woman, Is short-lived and full of turmoil.

Psalm 89:47 Remember what my span of life is; For what vanity Thou hast created all the sons of men!
90:9 For all our days have declined in Thy fury; We have finished our years like a sigh.
12 So teach us to number our days, That we may present to Thee a heart of wisdom.
Isaiah 40:6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 The grass withers, the flower fades: because the spirit of the LORD blows upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 The grass withers, the flower fades: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
1Peter 1:24 For, "All flesh is like grass, And all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, And the flower falls off,
Job 7:6 "My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, And come to an end without hope.

Persons are but a vanity.
If on a scale they are measured,
together they are lighter than air.
90:4 For a thousand years in Thy sight Are like yesterday when it passes by, Or as a watch in the night.

Matthew 6:1 Take heed not to do your alms before men to be seen of them, otherwise ye have no reward with your Father who is in the heavens.
2 When therefore thou doest alms, sound not a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may have glory from men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites; for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets so that they should appear to men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
16 And when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, downcast in countenance; for they disfigure their faces, so that they may appear fasting to men: verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Ecclesiastes 2:18 Thus I hated all the fruit of my labor for which I had labored under the sun, for I must leave it to the man who will come after me.
21 When there is a man who has labored with wisdom, knowledge and skill, then he gives his legacy to one who has not labored with them. This too is vanity and a great evil.
26 For to a person who is good in His sight He has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, while to the sinner He has given the task of gathering and collecting so that he may give to one who is good in God's sight. This too is vanity and striving after wind.
4:8 There was a certain man without a dependent, having neither a son nor a brother, yet there was no end to all his labor. Indeed, his eyes were not satisfied with riches and he never asked, "And for whom am I laboring and depriving myself of pleasure?" This too is vanity and it is a grievous task.
2Samuel 16:5 And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.
6 And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.
7 And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Come out, come out, thou bloody man, and thou man of Belial:
8 The LORD hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and the LORD hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son: and, behold, thou art taken in thy mischief, because thou art a bloody man.
9 Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head.

11 And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now may this Benjamite do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him.
12 It may be that the LORD will look on mine affliction, and that the LORD will requite me good for his cursing this day.
13 And as David and his men went by the way, Shimei went along on the hill's side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust.

1Chronicles 29:10 So David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly; and David said, "Blessed art Thou, O LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever.
11 "Thine, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Thine is the dominion, O LORD, and Thou dost exalt Thyself as head over all.
12 "Both riches and honor come from Thee, and Thou dost rule over all, and in Thy hand is power and might; and it lies in Thy hand to make great, and to strengthen everyone.
13 "Now therefore, our God, we thank Thee, and praise Thy glorious name.
14 "But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from Thee, and from Thy hand we have given Thee.
15 "For we are sojourners before Thee, and tenants, as all our fathers were; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.
16 "O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build Thee a house for Thy holy name, it is from Thy hand, and all is Thine.
17 "Since I know, O my God, that Thou triest the heart and delightest in uprightness, I, in the integrity of my heart, have willingly offered all these things; so now with joy I have seen Thy people, who are present here, make their offerings willingly to Thee.
18 "O LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, preserve this forever in the intentions of the heart of Thy people, and direct their heart to Thee;

Hebrews 11:13 All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.
1Peter 2:11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts, which wage war against the soul.
2Samuel 15:14 And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.
15 And the king's servants said unto the king, Behold, thy servants are ready to do whatsoever my lord the king shall appoint.
16 And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, which were concubines, to keep the house.
17 And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and tarried in a place that was far off.
18 And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men which came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.
19 Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou also with us? return to thy place, and abide with the king: for thou art a stranger, and also an exile.
20 Whereas thou camest but yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us? seeing I go whither I may, return thou, and take back thy brethren: mercy and truth be with thee.
21 And Ittai answered the king, and said, As the LORD liveth, and as my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will thy servant be.
22 And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him.
23 And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.
24 And lo Zadok also, and all the Levites were with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God: and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.
25 And the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favor in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and shew me both it, and his habitation:
26 But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as Seems good unto him.
27 The king said also unto Zadok the priest, Art not thou a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.
