Psalm 9 - Overcomer - Virgins for the Son - I will praise the Lord with my whole heart
This is the 5th Psalm for the Overcomer. Praise the Lord with our whole heart concerning His judgment.
If we can do this, we must be virgins for the Son. (Rev 14:3-4)
In v1, David says that he will recount all the Lord's marvelous works. But those marvelous works are not what we would think. The Lord's marvelous works are His judgments (vv 3, 7, 8, 16, 19) and His faithfulness to His suffering saints (vv 9, 10, 12, 18). The Lord is made know by His judgments ( v16), which thought is followed by Higgaion, Selah - dwell on this for a long time.
There are 2 prayers: v13 & vv19-20. The prayer in v13 is followed by v14 in which David gives the Lord a reason for lifting him out of death's gate: That I may show forth all Your praise in Zion. We should all tell this to the Lord, and have this expectation that we are a profit to the Lord ( Ps 30:9-10).
Most Psalms end with rejoicing or thanking, but this Psalm ends with a prayer for the Lord to arise and put the nations in fear.
v1 In seeking God, in crying for His help - each time it must be with my whole heart.- Andrew Murray
v3 - Whenever chaos seems to be prevailing, remember that the Lord is sitting on the throne, righteously judging. ( Ps 22:3)
v9 - This verse is one of my favorites. Times of distress are coming, eventually the great tribulation. We may be left on earth during it. The Lord will still be our refuge and not forsake us. Let us learn to take refuge and trust in Him now, in hope that we would be counted worthy to escape that time ( Luke 21:36).
v10-11 - This is what to do during times of distress.
v12 - Many saints will be martyred during the great tribulation ( Zech 13:7c-9).
v13 - a good prayer for the time of tribulation
v14 - We should justify our requests for the Lord to save us with this kind of reason. It is from the Lord's point of view, for His purpose, not just to have mercy on us.
The "daughters of Zion" in this verse are the "virgins for the Son" in the Psalm heading.
v15 - The world will reap what they've sown. We are living in the world, so we will suffer too.
The 3 other uses of the word in the Bible are Psalm 92:3; etc.
v19-20 - This prayer will keep you from conforming to the world.

Psalm 9 For the Overcomer, Virgins for the Son, a Psalm through David
Meter: 6.6.6.6.11.11
1 1 I will praise, I will praise,
the Lord with my whole heart.
I'll recount all of Thy
wondrous works from the start.
2 I will be so happy and rejoice in Thee.
Praises to Thy name, O Most High, will I sing.
2 3 When my foes are turned back,
they will perish and fall (3.1)
from Your face, (v4) for You have
maintained my right and cause.
You're righteously judging. On the throne You sit.
5 You rebuked nations. You destroyed the wicked.
3 You have put out their name
for ever and ever.
6 Enemy, Destructions
are ended forever.
They're des'late for ever, which You've overthrown,
the cities whose very remembrance is gone.
4 7 But the Lord sits for'ere.
in His throne for judgment.
8 And `tis He that will judge
the world with righteousness.
He'll execute judgment upon the nations (8.1)
with equity and no respect of persons.
5 9 And the Lord will be a
refuge to the oppressed,
a refuge, a refuge
for the times of distress.
10 And they that know Thy name will put trust in Thee,
for Thou, LORD, has not forsook them that seek Thee.
6 11 Sing praises to the LORD,
Who's dwelling in Zion.
Tell among the peoples
His doings, for when
12 inquires He after blood, He remembers them.
Afflicted ones' cry He has not forgotten.
7 13 Be gracious to me, Lord,
From the ones that hate me,
Lift me up from death's gate.
14 That I may show forth all Thy praise in Zion,
in whose gates (14.1) I'll rejoice in Thy salvation.
8 15 The nations are sunk down
in the pit that they made.
In the net that they hid
is their own foot taken.
16 By the judgment He's done, the Lord is made known.
The wicked's ensnared by the work his hands own.
<Higgaion. Selah>.
9 17 The wicked will return,
will return to Sheol,
all nations that forget
there is God over all.
18 For those who are in need He'll forget never.
The hope of the meek shall not perish fore'er.
10 19 O LORD God, now arise.
Do not let man prevail.
The nations will be judged
before Your face and wail.
20 Lord, put them in fear that the nations may know
that they are but men and how little they know.
<Selah.>
3.1. Lit. fall and perish
8.1. Lit. peoples
13.1. Lit. affliction

Post comment:
Revelation 14:3-4 And they sing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders; and no one could learn the song except the hundred and forty-four thousand, who have been purchased from the earth.
These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel.
1 Samuel 17:56 And the king said, Inquire thou whose son this youth ( alam) is.
1 Samuel 20:22 But if I say thus to the youth (alam): Behold, the arrows are beyond thee, -go thy way; for Jehovah sends thee away.
Psalm 30:9-10a What profit is there in my blood? if I go down to the pit?
Shall the dust praise Thee? Shall it declare Thy truth?
Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me.
Luke 21:36 Watch therefore, praying at every season, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things which are about to come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Zechariah 13:7 Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, even against the Man that is my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the Shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered, and I will turn my hand upon the last ones.
8 And it shall come to pass in all the earth, saith Jehovah, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
9 And I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on My name, and I will answer them: I will say, It is My people; and they shall say, Jehovah is my God.
You are even now sitting.
Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Jehovah, my rock, and my redeemer.
Lamentations 3:62 the lips of those that rise up against me and their meditation against me all the day.
